| Church Street Bridal Gown–Isn’t it Gorgeous?! |
Dear Engaged Bride-
Several weeks ago I was speaking with a bride-to-be about her upcoming wedding and she gave me some information that is too good to keep to myself. As am I, she is always looking for a good deal. So, when she heard about Church Street Bridal, a discount bridal shop, she had to make a visit. It’s in Lynchburg, on Church Street, appropriately enough. And she found a dress for her big day coming up this October!

The website for Church Street Bridal is http://www.ywca.org/site/pp.asp?c=mkI1L6MPJvE&b=919555. Maybe you noticed that YWCA is in the webpage address. That is because the shop was the brainchild, and is maintained by the YWCA. The dresses it sells are all in the $200-$700 range, below the cost of most bridal gowns sold in boutiques. It’s purpose is to provide affordable dresses for brides. The dresses are all new, and they come from big name couturies like Valentine’s Bridal Shop in Raleigh, NC; Jim Hjelm Couture in New York City, The Bridal Closet in Vienna, Virginia, and Bella Rosa in Richmond, Virginia.
The YWCA has a second purpose for offering the dresses, though. The proceeds help support a domestic violence women’s shelter, a transitional housing shelter, a low rent apartment building for women, and a children’s supervised visitation center (where children can meet with non-custodial family members in a safe environment). In fact, this is how the shop self-identifies: “Church Street Bridal, Combining Fashion and Philanthropy for your Big Day!”

What a great way to start off married life, saving money to pay for the honeymoon, perhaps, and at the same time helping women (and children) who are in need of help. You’ll definitely want to check out Church Street Bridal. The store is open from Tuesday to Friday, 3-6 p.m. and Saturday, 10-4 and is located at 626 Church Street on the second floor of the Town Center. If you are shopping for bridesmaids’ dresses, a Mother of the Bride or Groom dress or other formal wear, the Lynchburg’s YWCA can help you out here, too.
